Lead Safe Mama independently tested the Fabula whole bean in April 2026 and returned non-detect results for all four heavy metals — lead, cadmium, mercury, and arsenic. Mamavation independently tested Fabula and returned non-detect results for PFAS, 500+ pesticides, mycotoxins, mold, and yeast. No other Amazon-available coffee has been cleared by both of those organizations simultaneously. That double independent result is real, verifiable, and the strongest consumer-org testing record in its category.
Beyond the testing, Fabula's sourcing story is genuinely compelling. Their flagship coffee comes from Cajamarca in Peru's northern highlands — a high-elevation region where coffee grows at up to 7,000 feet in the Andes. At that altitude, the lower temperatures and extended growing season slow the ripening of the coffee cherry, developing more concentrated flavors and naturally reducing the acidity that comes from faster-ripened, lower-altitude crops. The low acid claim is not a processing intervention — it is a natural consequence of where and how the coffee is grown. They source specifically from Café Solidarios, a cooperative founded in 2000 in response to mining companies encroaching on farming lands, which has grown into a large cooperative supporting hundreds of smallholder producers.
One transparency note: Fabula's COA is not publicly posted on their website. Results are available upon request and the brand confirms they test every batch for 350+ compounds. We have verified the testing through independent sources — Lead Safe Mama and Mamavation each tested Fabula independently using their own protocols and confirmed clean results. But the absence of a publicly downloadable per-batch COA is a real gap compared to Holistic Roasters, which publishes every certificate unedited. We score this honestly and disclose it plainly.
