Our Evaluation
Rice is one of the most arsenic-contaminated staple foods in the American diet. Almost every sample of rice tested by independent researchers contains detectable arsenic — it is unavoidable because rice absorbs arsenic from soil and water more readily than most other crops. Given that reality, the question isn't whether a rice contains arsenic, but how much, how transparent the brand is about it, and whether the growing location minimizes the risk.
Lundberg Family Farms earns its Bonham Gold Label for three reasons: California sourcing, a decade-long commitment to published third-party heavy metals testing, and a Regenerative Organic Certification that explicitly prohibits glyphosate. Their long grain white rice tested at approximately 65 ppb total arsenic in Mamavation's independent testing — among the lowest results for any long grain white rice tested. Lead was non-detectable.
We are transparent that arsenic is detectable in this product. It is lower than virtually every competitor, and Lundberg is one of the only rice brands that has published its own testing data since 2013. That honesty is exactly what a Bonham Gold Label product looks like.
